F.A.Q’s

  • We serve Berwick-upon-Tweed, North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, including towns and villages such as Eyemouth, Duns, Coldingham, St Abbs, Tweedmouth...

  • We specialise in medium to larger scale jobs - rewires, full or partial electrical installations, consumer unit upgrades, safety inspections, EV charger wiring, lighting & power for homes, holiday lets and commercial premises.

  • Look out for warning signs like repeated tripping, flickering or dimming lights, buzzes or smells of burning, scorch marks, or outdated fuse elements rather than breakers. If your board is over 10-15 years old or lacks modern RCD/RCBO protection, it’s wise to have it inspected.

  • An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a full inspection and test of a property’s fixed wiring system. It identifies dangerous defects, evaluates the condition of wiring, and offers recommendations for remedial work or upgrades.

The recommended frequency of testing varies by property type, age, usage and location:

    • Domestic properties / private homes – often every 5–10 years (or earlier if issues arise)

    • Rental properties / holiday lets / landlord-owned homes – commonly every 5 years (or sooner if required by regulation)

    • Commercial / office / retail premises – often every 3–5 years, depending on usage, risk and local regulation

    • Industrial / high-use / harsh environments – may require more frequent inspection (e.g. every 1–3 years)

  • In 2025, holiday lets are not specifically required by law to have an EICR in every region. However, you do have a legal duty of care to ensure electrics are safe (under the Electricity at Work Regulations). Many insurers and letting agencies do expect a valid EICR for peace of mind.

In England, landlord electrical safety rules (Private Rented Sector Regulations 2020) mandate electrical inspections at least every 5 years for rental properties, which some holiday lets fall under.

  • Yes - we do those kinds of jobs. However, we operate on a minimum 2-hour charge. This initial block covers the time for travel, setup, and the work itself. Usually, for very small tasks, that 2-hour period is sufficient, and you’d only pay extra for materials (if any). If the job extends beyond that, additional time or work will be billed accordingly.

  • Absolutely. We take on installations in workshops, warehouses, holiday lets, retail spaces, and industrial settings - always applying the same safety and quality standards.

  • Yes. We carry full public liability insurance, work to British Standards, and ensure all installations are safe, compliant, and left tidy.

  • Yes. We can replace outdated units, upgrade to RCD/RCBO safety protection, add new circuits, and ensure your system meets current standards.

  • Drop us a message on the contact form below - we’ll arrange a site visit, assess the condition, and give you honest advice and a clear recommendation (no pressure).

  • Being based on the border we stay updated with both English and Scottish regulations, we perform thorough safety inspections, and we document every job properly - giving owners and guests peace of mind.
